About HOPE

HOPE Healthcare Services (HOPE) currently provides medical and dental care through the efforts of volunteer healthcare providers; serving as the medical home for 600-700 patients with 1500+ patient-visits per year.  With 60 three-hour shifts each month, approximately 20% of the capacity of the building-hours is utilized.  Limited mental health services are offered.  HOPE is a Christian ministry and a 501c3 organization (www.myhopehealth.org).

HOPE is adding a DPC practice to the ministry, with primary care services provided to patients paying a monthly fee.  Our Community Care model (described above) will continue to provide care by healthcare professionals volunteering their time and, on a limited basis, the HOPE staff physician/NP.  DPC patients will not receive care from the volunteer providers.

HOPE’s mission is not changing. The addition of the DPC model is to increase the ministry’s reach into the community and steward the resources (both material and human) that God has provided.

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Noise-level in the work environment is usually somewhat quiet.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO: Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy degree required.
  • Graduation from a college or university accredited by the American Medical Association with a Doctor of Medicine or accredited by the American Osteopathic Association with a Doctor of Osteopathy degree.  If medical education occurred at a foreign medical school, the applicant must possess a current Educational Council Foreign Medical Graduate (ECFMG) Certificate.
  • Successful completion of an approved program of residency training in family practice
  • Current and unencumbered medical license within the US with ability to transfer license to Indiana
  • Current DEA certificate required.
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Family Medicine. If Board Eligible at the time of hire,  Board Certification within 3 years of hire date (preferred)
  • Insurability (malpractice)
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate
  • Previous computer experience or training required with particular emphasis on EMR use
  • Three years+ private practice or clinic setting (preferred)
  • Experience in public health (preferred)
  • Experience in missions or theological training (preferred)
  • Successful candidate must submit to TB testing and any vaccinations recommended by OSHA guidelines.

Provide the full scope of primary care services, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, care coordination, preventive care and health maintenance to patients (2 years of age and above) in both a direct-pay patient setting and in support of a volunteer-based clinic model. The provider will serve as Chief Medical Officer to provide clinical leadership and supervision of mid-level providers and medical support staff as well as a resource to our volunteer providers and volunteer support staff.  The position will work alongside the Clinical Services Manager to ensure quality of care and support of our overall mission. The provider must be available to staff and patients at appointed on-call times to respond to emergencies and answer medical questions.  We are seeking a part-time (3 days per week) physician (MD/DO)  to partner with a mid-level provider. (The job share arrangement is to allow for time off; as this is the first, paid staff medical provider at HOPE.) The physician will need to have a current licensure in good standing and be able to obtain licensure in Indiana.   Applicants must have well-developed writing, interpersonal, and communication skills, as well as be able to use Electronic Medical Records for all charting. The position reports to the Executive Director.  The position will begin three days per week (most likely Monday, Wednesday and Friday.)

Additional Requirements

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other assignments, projects, and duties may be required:

  • Christ-centered individual capable of expressing the gospel through words, deeds and character.
  • Ability to adapt to work in an ever-changing environment with a positive attitude.
  • Self-directed approach to work-related tasks.
  • Provides continuing, comprehensive health maintenance and medical care to individuals and families–to include preventive medicine, behavioral sciences and community health.
  • Obtain health history and perform physical examinations.
  • Diagnose and direct counseling for each patient on a plan for treatment.
  • Prescribe medication in accordance with Indiana statute and professional practice guidelines.
  • Fluent with current standards of care in family medicine, including gynecology, pediatrics, geriatrics, and basic psychiatry.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures.
  • Determines need for consultation and assists in medical care treatment provided at the direction of other specialists.
  • Arrange referral for patients based on need in coordination with the Clinical Services Manager.
  • Review incoming reports (e.g. lab, x-ray, EKG) sign, date and arrange follow-up in a timely manner.
  • Instructs other health care providers and non-medical personnel in a variety of health related topics, including first-aid measures and health care maintenance.
  • May participate in the instruction of medical students who participate in a clinical rotation at Hope Healthcare Services (the clinic is not currently a rotation site.)
  • Participate in staff outreach and off-site recruitment/fund raising efforts.
  • Comply with the Hope Healthcare Services Infection Control plan which includes personally utilizing universal precautions. Ensures compliance by support staff.
  • Participate and ensure compliance with best practice protocols within Hope Healthcare Services as well as all regulatory compliance measures at the federal, state, and local level.
  • Participate in CME, peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings, and other clinical meetings.
  • Assist in updating protocols and principles of practice, as requested.
  • Assist in outside medical and/or public relations functions.
  • Adhere to and assist with demographic acquisition needs of the clinic and its supporting organizations.
