The solution to our health care woes — both high costs and denied coverage — lies in changing the way we pay for services. Doctors need to be paid to keep people healthy, plain and simple. Our existing “fee for service” payment model developed by the insurance industry and then adopted by Medicare and Medicaid reimburses health care providers for as many procedures ordered, surgeries performed, tests carried out, drugs consumed and patient visits as they can accomplish.
